1596-BM Magdeburg Taler Joachim Friedrich von Brandenburg NGC MS65+

1596-BM Magdeburg Taler Joachim Friedrich von Brandenburg NGC MS65+

Struck in 1596 at the Halle mint, this Taler commemorates Joachim Friedrich von Brandenburg, who served as Administrator of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg from 1566 to 1598 before becoming Elector of Brandenburg. This period marked significant religious and political shifts within the Holy Roman Empire, with Joachim Friedrich playing a pivotal role in the Protestant Reformation's consolidation in northern Germany. Coins from this era reflect the intricate balance between ecclesiastical authority and emerging secular governance

Obverse:
Features an armored bust of Joachim Friedrich facing right, dividing the date. The Latin legend, interspersed with four small shields of arms, reads: "IOAC(H). F(RI) - D: G: ADM(I) - MAGDE. - M(A)()R): BRAN."

Reverse: Depicts a crowned imperial eagle with "Z4" in an orb on its breast, symbolizing imperial authority. The surrounding Latin inscription reads: "MAXIMI. II. D. G. ROM(A). IMPE(R). AVG: P: F. D."

Halle mint, Dav-9444. Of unimaginable quality for this type almost exclusively witnessed in well-circulated conditions, here at the very peak of the certified population. While the composition is a bit crude as is expected of Talers of this vintage, its preservation vastly outweighs this, appearing as if it had just left the presses. Abundant mint flash bathes every inch of the surfaces, illuminating a complete lack of distracting marks. Originality seemingly knows no bounds within the present specimen, which endures decorated in a pervasive array of cabinet tones and confirming NGC's assertion of their coveted "star" designation. Extremely Rare
