Intended as a replacement for the Montgomery $100 which was unavailable, these notes were printed by the Southern Bank Note Company, which was the New Orleans branch of ABNCo. Only 5,798 notes were able to be printed before New Orleans fell in the spring of 1862. A bold green overprint is displayed on this "First Richmond" $100 by PMG mentions a restoration that appears to be a repair near the ornamental 100 counter at upper left. Rare.
