$174,000.00 USD
– SOLDThe U.S. Mint struck 67,000 pieces, which is a huge figure in comparison to the much smaller outputs of the 1880s and 1890s. Even with tens of thousands of coins produced, far fewer of these coins survive today and are quite scarce in the scheme of the collector market. This is the case with most pre-1933 U.S. gold coins, which were melted in huge numbers and are now quite scarce today.
Obverse: Christian Gobrecht's portrait of Liberty is surrounded by 13 stars with the date centered at the bottom.
Reverse: Heraldic eagle holding arrows and branch in its claws is centered in the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * @ 2 1/2 D. around the periphery. Mintmark (if any) is located under the eagle's claws.
