The obverse of the 1852 Mexico 1/2 Escudo Ffeatures the national arms of Mexico—an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak, surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak branches. The inscription reads "REPUBLICA MEXICANA" which translates to “Mexican Republic,” reinforcing the coin’s status as part of the national currency of the new republic.

 

The reverse of the coin displays a hand holding a liberty cap above an open book of law, symbolizing liberty and justice. The inscription reads "LIBERTAD EN LA LEY" (Liberty in the Law), along with the denomination, mint mark, date, and assayer's initials.
