Struck in 1782 to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, this gold 6 Ducats piece was issued under Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus von Colloredo. Produced to a medallic standard, it is notable for its exceptional craftsmanship and rarity.
Obverse: Features a right-facing portrait of Hieronymus von Colloredo, with the artist's signature "M" for F. Matzenkopf below the bust. The Latin legend around reads: “HIERONYMVS D · G · A · & · P · S · A · S · L · N · G · PRIM ·”, denoting his ecclesiastical titles.
Reverse: Depicts the front of an ancient temple with the inscription “D · O · M ·” on the pediment, symbolizing dedication to God. Above is the legend “PRINCEPS POPULUSQ : IUVAVIENS ·”, and below, “SEC : IUB : XII ·” with the date in Roman numerals.
