The 12 Mark Courant was Denmark's standard gold ducat during King Frederik V's reign (1746-1766). Minted in Copenhagen, this "Courant Ducat" weighs approximately 3.12 grams of .875 fine gold.
The obverse features Frederik V's bare bust facing right with the Latin legend "FRIDERICVS V D G DAN NOR V G REX" (Frederik V, by the Grace of God King of Denmark, Norway, the Wends, and the Goths).
The reverse displays: A crowned royal monogram, the denomination "XII MARK" The date (split by the mintmark "K•W") The motto "PRUDENTIA ET CONSTANTIA" (With Prudence and Perseverance).
These coins were important trade currency both domestically and internationally during the mid-18th century. The issue was produced between 1758-1763 (KM#587.3–587.5) with minor mintmark variations, but maintaining identical design elements.
The preservation level is particularly impressive considering these coins were minted over 260 years ago without modern minting technology.
FR. 269 (KM587.5) A very rare piece in uncirculated condition. Great luster with incredible strike for this piece. Unpriced in Uncirculated/MS60 in KM!
