Struck during the twilight year of Ferdinand VI's reign, this 1759 half Escudo from the Mexico City Mint offers a delicate yet distinct glimpse into Spain’s colonial coinage at the mid-18th century. As a fractional gold denomination, these pieces were typically subjected to circulation, making high-grade survivors especially appealing.
Obverse: Curled bust of Ferdinand VI facing right with a bold “1759” date below and surrounding legend “FERDINAND VI D G”.
Reverse: Crowned Spanish Bourbon arms with mintmark “M” and assayer letter “J” at the base, all surrounded by the inscription “HISPANIARUM REX”.
Graded NGC MS63, this example displays radiant fields and soft frost over the devices. Its preservation is rare for a coin of this size and issue, offering strong eye appeal and historical charm.
