Minted in Mexico City under Ferdinand VI, this 1758 half Escudo is a diminutive yet sharply defined representative of 18th-century Spanish colonial gold. As part of the smallest denomination of the escudo series, these coins saw heavy circulation, making high-grade survivors like this one incredibly elusive.
Obverse: Draped and curly-haired bust of Ferdinand VI facing right, with the partial legend "FERDINAND VI D G" and the date 1758 positioned below.
Reverse: Crowned Bourbon arms of Spain flanked by mintmark and assayer initials "M • JB", with the legend "HISPAN ARUM REX" surrounding.
Graded NGC MS64+, this coin ranks at the cusp of perfection for the type, showcasing vibrant luster, bold devices, and virtually untouched surfaces. A stunning and scarcely encountered condition rarity.
