1718 Gold Louis D'Or Lille NGC MS62

1718 Gold Louis D'Or Lille NGC MS62

A compelling example from the reign of Louis XV, struck at the Lille mint during the early 18th century—a period of transition following the end of Louis XIV’s long reign. The Louis d'Or represented the enduring strength and economic ambition of the Bourbon monarchy.

Obverse: Features a youthful, laureate bust of King Louis XV facing right, surrounded by the legend LVD•XV•D•G•FR•ET•NAV•REX•1718, translating to "Louis XV, by the Grace of God, King of France and Navarre." The portrait is finely detailed, framed by well-preserved legends and bearing the “W” mintmark of Lille below the bust.

Reverse: Displays the iconic Cross of the Holy Spirit with fleurs-de-lis at its center and points, radiating an emblem of divine right and Christian monarchy. The surrounding legend reads CHRISTVS REGNAT VINCIT IMPERAT, meaning "Christ reigns, conquers, and commands," reinforcing the coin's sacred and sovereign messaging.

Graded NGC MS62, this Louis d'Or remains sharply struck with glistening golden luster and minor handling evidence. An attractive, high-grade representative of an increasingly scarce French royal issue.
