1673 West Friesland, Provincial Ducaton "Silver Rider" NGC MS63 PL

1673 West Friesland, Provincial Ducaton "Silver Rider" NGC MS63 PL

Issued during the Dutch Republic's struggle for maritime and economic dominance, this 1673 West Friesland Ducaton is a powerful expression of provincial pride and silver minting excellence. Produced at the private mint of Dirk Bosch in Enkhuizen, this "Silver Rider" type was struck in a period of intensified warfare with England and France, part of the larger Franco-Dutch War (1672–1678).

Obverse: Displays a gallant armored knight on horseback, galloping right above a detailed provincial arms of West Friesland. The legend typically includes “MO ARG PRO CONFOE BELG WEST FRIS”, identifying the issuing province and its allegiance to the United Provinces.

Reverse: Presents an ornate shield of the Dutch Republic, crowned and flanked with weapons and banners, encircled by the Latin motto “CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT” (“Unity Makes Strength”), the fundamental creed of the Republic.

Graded NGC MS63 Prooflike, this coin is among the Finest of Only Three Known, and the single finest certified by NGC. The surfaces exhibit exceptional reflective quality, approaching that of a presentation proof, with polychrome toning in the fields adding depth and visual intrigue. This level of preservation is extraordinary for a large silver coin from the 17th century, especially one struck in such limited numbers by a provincial private mint. The well-centered strike and sharply defined motifs further elevate its rarity and collector appeal.

Silver Ducaton, Prooflike. The coin looks like a Proof! Unbelievable. Stunningly gorgeous! The Finest of Only 3 Known in Exsistant!
