The 1498-1515 France Écu of Louis XII, graded MS-62, is a well-preserved gold coin from the reign of Louis XII, a pivotal French monarch known for his military campaigns in Italy and domestic reforms. His rule marked the continuation of the Italian Wars, where France vied for control over the Kingdom of Naples and the Duchy of Milan. Despite initial successes, these wars drained resources and ultimately failed to establish lasting French dominance in Italy. Domestically, Louis XII was regarded as a just ruler, earning the title "Father of the People" (Père du Peuple) for his efforts to reduce taxes and promote legal reforms.

The obverse  features the crowned shield of France adorned with three fleurs-de-lis, the traditional emblem of the French monarchy. This symbol represents divine right and the legitimacy of the Valois dynasty.

The reverse  displays a cross with additional heraldic elements, reinforcing the coin’s association with Christian authority and the power of the French Crown. The detailed engravings and inscriptions highlight the craftsmanship of the time and the coin’s function as a widely accepted form of currency in European trade.
