Struck during the reign of Francesco Foscari—Venice’s longest-serving Doge—this gold ducat reflects the height of Venetian maritime power and economic influence in the 15th century. Foscari’s tenure oversaw territorial expansion and consolidation of Venice’s role as a dominant trade empire in the Mediterranean.
Obverse: Shows the Doge kneeling before Saint Mark, who presents the gonfalon (banner) of the Republic. The legend reads: S • M • VENETI • F • FOSCAR, identifying both the saint and the Doge.
Reverse: Features Christ standing within a radiant oval mandorla, bestowing a blessing. The image evokes divine authority and spiritual protection for the Republic.
Graded NGC MS64, this exceptional example offers full detail and satiny surfaces, with a bold strike rarely seen on 15th-century Venetian coinage. A high-end survivor from one of Venice’s most influential eras.
