1422-1453 Gold Salut D'Or King Henry VI PCGS MS63

1422-1453 Gold Salut D'Or King Henry VI PCGS MS63

The 1422–1453 France Gold Salut d'Or of King Henry VI is a significant Anglo-French medieval coin issued during the Hundred Years’ War. As King of both England and France, Henry VI authorized this type at various French mints under English occupation. This striking issue served both as currency and a symbol of dynastic legitimacy across contested territory.

Obverse: Features the Archangel Gabriel at right presenting a scroll to the Virgin Mary on the left, both figures standing behind paired shields—France and quartered France/England. Above, rays descend from the Holy Spirit. The legend circles the design in Gothic script.

Reverse: Displays a plain Latin cross within a lobed tressure. A fleur-de-lis and a leopard flank the vertical arms of the cross, with additional fleurons in the surrounding angles and margins.

Graded PCGS MS63, this example is superbly preserved, with crisp devices and warm golden tone. The strike is well-centered and complete, making this an exceptional Mint State representation of one of the most important medieval gold types issued under English rule in France.
