1422-1453 Gold Salut D'Or King Henry VI NGC MS64+

1422-1453 Gold Salut D'Or King Henry VI NGC MS64+

Struck at the Saint-Lô mint during the Anglo-Gallic campaigns, this Salut d'Or is an enduring emblem of Henry VI’s contested sovereignty over France. Issued during the 2nd emission (from 6 September 1423), it reflects both English monarchic symbolism and deep ecclesiastical reverence during the latter stages of the Hundred Years’ War.

Obverse: The Archangel Gabriel, standing behind the quartered arms of France and England, presents a scroll inscribed "AVE" to the Virgin Mary, who appears behind the arms of France. This intricate religious scene unfolds beneath a radiant divine light, all enclosed within a Gothic quatrefoil and framed by the Latin legend declaring Henry as king of France and England.

Reverse: A Latin cross rises above the letter "h" and is flanked by a fleur-de-lis and a leopard, all set within a lobed tressure. The legend proclaims the divine victory, reign, and imperium of Christ.

Graded NGC MS64+, this example is bathed in soft luster with minimal handling and nearly flawless visual appeal. Light tone and complete design articulation enhance its rarity and collector desirability, placing it among the most well-preserved examples of this poignant Anglo-French gold issue.
