1750 Gold 1 SD'OR NGC AU58+

$4,943.00 USD

The 1750 Souverain d'Or was struck for the Austrian Netherlands (roughly modern Belgium) under Habsburg rule during the reign of Empress Maria Theresia (1740-1780). This high-value gold coin, valued at 8.875 florins, served as an important trade piece throughout the Habsburg-controlled provinces.

Obverse: Features a right-facing bust of Maria Theresia wearing an unveiled, low-necked gown, with the Latin legend "MAR·TH·D·G·R·IMP·G·HUN·BOH·R·", which abbreviates "Maria Theresia Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperatrix Germania Hungariae Bohemiaeque Regina" ("Maria Theresia, by the Grace of God Empress of the Romans, Queen of Germany, Hungary and Bohemia").

Reverse: Displays a crowned Habsburg shield within an ornate cartouche, with the legend "ARCH·AUS·DUX·BURG·BRAB·C·FL·1750", meaning "Archiduchess of Austria, Duchess of Burgundy and Brabant, Countess of Flanders." These titles specifically reflect the Austrian Netherlands provinces under Habsburg control.

Specifications: The coin measures 22 mm in diameter, contains .919 fine gold, and weighs 5.530 grams (equivalent to 0.1634 troy ounces of pure gold). It was struck at the Antwerp mint, as indicated by the hand mintmark. The coin is cataloged as KM#14 in standard references. The engraver Jacques Roëttiers's "R" appears on the truncation of the bust, signifying his artistic contribution to this issue.

The subject coin is graded NGC AU58+ (About Uncirculated 58+), representing the highest circulated grade, just short of Mint State, with a "plus" designation indicating superior quality within the grade. AU58+ coins display essentially full luster and only the most minimal wear on the highest points.
