1872 $3 Indian Princess NGC PF64 Ultra Cameo

$76,230.00 USD

– SOLD

Once the Civil War hit the mintages of $3 gold would never really regain the ground they had after they began production in 1854.

By 1872, the business strike mintage of just 2,000 coins makes the date elusive for any collector – but the Proof mintage of just 30 pieces makes this format immensely desirable to purveyors of only the most exceptional rarities.

While 30 is a very low number, it doesn’t present the entire story of this magnificent coin.

Far fewer are known to exist in any condition today, and this is the ONLY example ever designated as Ultra Cameo by PCGS or NGC combined! This probably means production standards at the Mint in 1872 didn’t allow for the deep, highly reflective surfaces this coin exhibits. Thus, it is quite the enigma for the issue and will be a prized acquisition in any world class collection of rare gold coinage.

 The ONLY Ultra Cameo Example!
