1422- 1453 King Henry VI Gold Salut D'OR NGC MS 63

$7,472.00 USD

Struck in France under English rule during the height of the Hundred Years’ War, this 1422–1450 Salut d’or of King Henry VI, graded NGC MS62, exemplifies the Anglo-French dual monarchy's political and religious messaging. The “salut” (greeting) motif, with the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, symbolized divine legitimacy amid conflict and was issued in territories loyal to the Lancastrian regime.

Obverse: Depicts the Virgin Mary and the Angel Gabriel flanking a shield bearing the quartered arms of France and England, with rays of divine light descending from above. The Annunciation theme and the shield affirm both spiritual and temporal claims, making this one of the most visually evocative coins of the era.

Reverse: Features a long cross within a quadrilobe with fleurs-de-lis and lions in the angles, symbolizing divine protection and heraldic authority. The inscription "XPC VINCIT XPC REGNAT XPC IMPERAT" (Christ conquers, reigns, and commands) reinforces the coin’s religious-political message.

This MS62 example is an extraordinary survivor among hammered gold coinage. The strike is impressively complete, showing full central detail and near-unbroken legends on a broad flan. Its high grade, paired with exceptional preservation and rich gold toning, places it among the finest extant Saluts d’or—an elite acquisition for collectors of medieval or Anglo-French coinage
