The Observe features the fourth crowned bust of King James I facing right. The legend reads "IACOBVS MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX" (James, by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland).

The reverse displays a crowned quartered shield dividing the letters "I R" (Iacobus Rex). The legend reads "FACIAM EOS IN GENTEM VNAM" (I will make them one nation).
