1764 Gold Proof Pattern 1/4 Guinea George III PCGS PR65

$33,300.00 USD

KM-Pn45, W&R-141 (R5). Plain edge. By Richard Yeo. An incredibly and amazing well-provenanced specimen of this most elusive fractional gold pattern, which, while conceived within the first 5 years of George III's accession to the throne, resulted in only a single circulation issue, struck in 1762. Admittedly struck from slightly rusted dies, the finish on the offering is quite simply fantastic, not a shred of detail restricted by the small format of the coin and the dies clearly polished to the gills. In addition to the present specimen, only two others (one being the Wilson and Rasmussen plate coin) have come to auction in the past decade, with a decent number of the remaining specimens residing in the holdings of museums. A perfect accompaniment to the additional Proofs of George III in any collection. Ex. Terner Collection (Goldberg Auction 25, May 2004, Lot 1200); Douglas-Morris Collection (Sotheby's November 1974, Lot 76) Extremely RARE.
