King Charles VI, also known as Charles the Well-Beloved and later Charles the Mad, reigned from 1380 to 1422. His reign was marked by internal strife, the ongoing Hundred Years' War with England, and his bouts of mental illness, which led to periods of regency and political instability.

The obverse features a detailed shield bearing the French royal coat of arms, adorned with fleurs-de-lis. This emblem symbolizes the divine right and legitimacy of the French king. The craftsmanship of the shield and inscriptions reflects the high artistic standards of the period.

The reverse displays a cross with elaborate decorative elements. The cross signifies the king's role as a Christian ruler and protector of the faith.
