1355-1383 Gold Pieter D'Or Joanna & Wenceslas PCGS MS63

$8,927.00 USD

Struck during the co-reign of Joanna and Wenceslas in the duchy of Brabant, this Pieter d'Or from the Louvain mint exemplifies the high Gothic artistry of late medieval Low Countries coinage.

Obverse: Features a richly detailed image of St. Peter standing frontally, holding a key in his left hand and a book in his right. Below, the arms of Limburg, Brabant, and Luxembourg are quartered on a shield. The scene is enclosed within an ornate tressure of arches, accented with fleur-de-lis and trefoils in the spandrels.

Reverse: A cross fleurée dominates the reverse, centered by a rosette and flanked by Gothic quatrefoils. The surrounding legend proclaims Christ’s triumph, reign, and empire.

Graded PCGS MS63, this example is nearing the peak of the certified census. It shows expert strike execution and minimal softness across the fields, enhanced by a mellow harvest-gold tone. A superbly preserved and historically rich specimen of 14th-century Flemish numismatics.
