2020 US WWII Privy Mark G$50 NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo

$31,200.00 USD

– SOLD

One of 1945 Struck First Day of Issue. This is an exquisite Ultra Cameo Proof with flawless surfaces, vivid golden patina, and sharp field to device contrast. The privy mark is crisply executed and readily evident in the right obverse field.

The obverse of the 2020 $50 American Gold Eagle features the iconic Saint-Gaudens design of Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Behind her, the sun’s rays extend outward, symbolizing enlightenment and progress. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed above, with 50 stars surrounding the rim, representing the 50 U.S. states. The year "2020" is placed to the right of Liberty’s flowing gown, and just below it is the special "V75" World War II privy mark, honoring the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII.

The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, displays a family of bald eagles. A male eagle is depicted soaring above with an olive branch in its talons, while a female eagle and her hatchlings rest in a nest below, symbolizing strength, unity, and the preservation of American values. The inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" across the top, with "1 OZ. FINE GOLD - 50 DOLLARS" at the bottom, indicating the coin’s weight and denomination. The phrases "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed near the center of the design.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Allied Victory in World War Two with the defeat of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan in 1945, the United States Mint issued 1,945 examples of the Proof 2020-W one-ounce gold eagle with a special V75 privy mark. This is a beautiful example of this special commemorative issue that will appeal to both modern U.S. Mint coinage specialists and World War Two enthusiasts.
