LV | DOVICVS: DЄI • GRA: COm' • DnS: FLΛnDR | IЄ (annulet and double annulet tops), helmed and seated lion left within Gothic stall; FLΛNDRЄS in exergue below / +BЄИЄDICTVS: QVI: VЄИIT: IИ: ИOmIИЄ: DOmIИI (double saltire stops), cross fleuree with F | L | A | N in quarters and D' in center, all within tressure. Of outstanding beauty, a medieval masterpiece with clearly original sun-yellow surfaces and considerable residual luster. Its production quality is absolutely superb for the type, centrally struck on a flan of good metal with essentially no areas of weakness whatsoever.

The obverse features a detailed depiction of a helmeted lion, symbolizing strength and courage, which was emblematic of the Flanders region during Louis II's reign. The surrounding legend typically includes the ruler's name and titles, though specific inscriptions can vary.

The reverse showcases a floriated cross, a common motif in medieval coinage, representing both religious significance and the artistic styles of the period. The cross is often enclosed within a quadrilobe, with additional decorative elements in the spandrels, reflecting the intricate craftsmanship of the time

A piece for the discerning. Among the finest known. Very Rare.
