Twenty Cent - A Description Of The Coin’s Elements
The obverse of the new coin featured Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff topped with a Liberty cap. She is surrounded by thirteen stars, with the date below. The reverse shows an eagle from the Trade dollar, with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TWENTY CENTS around the edge. Although the coins have a smooth edge, rather than reeded as with the quarter and other silver coins, the new piece was close to the size of the quarter.
