Switzerland
Prior to mid 19th century Switzerland, multiple cantons, or subdivisions, minted their own coins. To end this confusion, the Federal Coinage Act of Switzerland passed in 1850, transferring all minting rights to the Federal Government, giving rise to the Swiss Franc, which is now the oldest circulation coin of the world. The Swiss Mint created many designs of the Swiss Franc over the years, while using patterns to evaluate their designs.
