Flowing Hair Dollars - The Birth Of A Nation And Its New Coinage
In 1792, when the United States was in its infancy, the dollar became the foundation of the monetary system created by the Founding Fathers. However, it took more than two years between the authorization of the dollar coinage and the actual production of the first coin, the Flowing Hair silver dollar. It took until 1794 for silver and gold coins to finally be struck. Short lived, the Flowing Hair Dollar design was replaced in October 1795 by the Draped Bust Dollar.
