Barber Quarters
The United States was in the midst of great transition in the last decade of the 19th century. Economic depression was rampant. Unionism in the form of railroad brotherhoods sprang up, covering the entire nation. Piano player Scott Joplin introduced a new kind of music—ragtime. It was against this backdrop that the coinage of Charles E. Barber was introduced to the American public.
