402-450AD Theodoslus II AV Solidus MS

Theodosius II, Eastern Roman Emperor (AD 402-450). AV solidus (4.48 gm). NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5, light graffito. Constantinople, 3rd officina, AD 430-440. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing, head slightly right, spear in right hand over shoulder, shield in left decorated with horseman motif / Constantinopolis enthroned left, left foot on prow, globus cruciger in right hand, scepter in left, shield beside; star behind, CONOB in exergue. RIC 257. Depeyrot 81/1. Magnificent strike, style and overall is simply gorgeous. 

Struck ca. 405 BC. SYPA (retrograde), head of Athena left, wearing crested Attic helmet / Aegis with gorgoneion, all within incuse circle. HGC 2, 1290 (Second Democracy). Rizzo, pl. XLVIII, n. 6. Weber 1608. SNG ANS 316. Minor die breaks, otherwise nicely centered and pleasing. Stunning and a great value. Very RARE this nice.
