Berlin mint. A charming piece, with natural dark toning along the edges and bright luster throughout. Rarely encountered in any condition, this example is just the third specimen to have been offered at public auction in at least a decade. With its impressive grade of PR66 Cameo, this is an opportunity that collectors of the German Empire should take seriously. Extremely Rare.
Ernst I. Friedrich Paul Georg Nicholas of Saxe-Altenburg (September 16, 1826 - February 7, 1908) was the Duke of Saxe-Altenburg from 1853 to 1908. Ernst hardly appeared politically, loved the hunt, but was very open to social problems in the country. He simplified the state administration and Altenburg developed under his government into a major industrial city. Duke Ernst I. was considered a close friend of all three German emperors.
