1899 $20 PCGS PR63+ DCAM

$124,000.00 USD

The 1899 Liberty Head $20 Gold Coins were designed by James B. Longacre and were struck by the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints. A significantly larger number of $20 gold coins were made at the San Francisco mint in 1899 than the Philadelphia mint. The eagle, half eagle, and quarter eagle were defined by name in the Act of Congress originally authorizing them. Likewise, the double eagle was created by the Coinage Act of 1849.Since the $20 gold piece had twice the value of the eagle, these coins were designated "double eagles".
