– SOLD

The 1836 Classic Head $2.5 Gold Quarter Eagle was part of a series minted from 1834 to 1839. Designed by William Kneass, this coin was introduced to replace the Capped Bust design. The Classic Head design aimed to reduce the gold content to prevent melting for bullion, aligning with the Coinage Act of 1834.

The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty with curly hair, wearing a headband inscribed with "LIBERTY." Thirteen stars surround the portrait, representing the original thirteen colonies, with the date below

The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with a shield on its chest, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "2 1/2 D." encircle the eagle.
