What an incredible piece that is near uncirculated. Manley Die State 3.0, the usual late die state. A light die bulge appears in the right obverse field with a heavier bulge through AMER on the reverse. A delicate die crack advanced through RICA to the right ribbon and fraction. This lovely olive-brown specimen shows deeper blue patina around the devices on both sides. A small depression appears in the field behind the Liberty cap, and a few other scattered marks are evident on each side. Slight central weakness is typical of the variety. These early, 1793-1795, copper pieces are some of the rarest and most important pieces ever struck. They are truly the bedrock of the United States money and this one was gently circulated for but a brief time. What’s so incredible is to think who may have handled it from 1795 until it was quickly taken out of circulation and collected. Then over the years it passed through many collector/investor hands from the time of the Revolutionary war, the Civil War, the great depression, WW2 and all through to today
