The 1406–1454 Castile and León Gold Dobla de la Banda of King Juan II, struck at the Seville Mint, is a rare and beautifully preserved medieval Spanish issue. Minted during a period of internal consolidation and regal expansion, this type reflects the martial and heraldic identity of Castilian sovereignty under the Trastámara dynasty.
Obverse: Displays the crowned coat of arms of Castile prominently tilted within a shield bordered by a legend in Gothic script. The design is sharp and evenly rendered, showcasing the distinct diagonal "banda" that gives the coin its name.
Reverse: Features the quartered arms of Castile and León, arranged around a central cross with a prominent “S” mintmark at the top for Seville. The layout is bold and symmetrical, with fine detail in each quadrant and full peripheral lettering.
Graded NGC MS63, this piece is outstanding for the issue, which is typically encountered weakly struck or off-center. The planchet is round and balanced, and the strike is unusually uniform, especially on the reverse. A satiny, lustrous example with exceptional eye appeal, this is a top-tier representation of late medieval Iberian gold.
